To check water theft cases
Raipur, April 23, 2010
Considering increasing water theft cases in the summer, the RMC has requested from the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) the cut power during water supply. In this regard, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak wrote a letter to the power company’s Chief Engineer AK Tiwari (Raipur Region) on Friday and sought his fast approval on her application.
She informed Tiwari that during her recent meeting with the power company’s Assistant Superintendent Engineer PK Khare regarding water supply in the city, both agreed that the water problem looms large in those areas where a majority of people directly connect suction pump with the municipal tap. The RMC tries to compensate water scarcity in such regions by plying tankers but this is not a permanent solution to the problem, she said.
Anticipating that the CSPDCL would face public protest if it would disrupt electricity of the entire city during water supply, Nayak suggested that the power company could initially experiment the method in a couple of areas for three days.
The municipal has listed four areas where the power supply would be disrupted for three days – thirty minutes in Sadar Bazar – from 6 am to 6.30 am, 45 minutes in Civil Lines (except Raj Bhawan, CM House, Circuit House and other VIP areas) – from 7.30 am to 8.15 am, one hour each in Rajendra Nagar and Devendra Nagar (except Ambedkar hospital, Medical College and Officers’ colony) – from 6 am to 7 am.
