BJP’s anti-tribal face exposed: Congress

Raipur, February 08, 2012

The Congress has said that ruling BJP’s anti-tribal face had been exposed as it took majority of decisions against the tribal community. “Be it a matter of reduction of five reserved Vidhan Sabha seats of scheduled tribe (ST) during delimitation or provision of appropriate reservation quota for ST category, the government has always deceived the tribals,” said senior Congress leader Arvind Netam, deputy CLP leader Rampukar Singh, former CLP leader Mahendra Karma and senior tribal leader Bodhram Kanwar on Wednesday.
“The delimitation of VS seats was done in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand states almost simultaneously. Both the states have almost equal proportion of tribal population. But while the Chhattisgarh CM did not take any initiative to keep the VS seats for ST category intact, the Jharkhand CM went to the extent of talking to the PM and ensuring that the seats reserved for tribal remain unchanged,” the Congmen said.
“The BJP government did not increase the reservation quota of ST category from 18% to 32 % despite being in the power for past eight years. It rather did the job only lately but has not yet issued notification in this regard. The ruling party’s neglectful attitude prevented thousands of tribal youth to acquire government jobs in the state,” they said.
“The CM is least bothered about the tribal community. Hence when villages in Bastar region were burnt, the CM reached there after 20 days. Similarly, large number of tribal people are denied caste certificate due to predominance of babudom in the state,” they said.
