Oppn to Guv: Govt meddling in Cong-ruled civic bodies

Raipur, February 13, 2012

The opposition on Monday complained Governor Shekhar Dutt that state government had posed biased attitude towards Congress-ruled civic bodies and panchayats, was persistently interfering into their matters and eventually hampering development works. In this connection, a delegation of Congress members led by PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey submitted a memorandum to Dutt and requested him to direct the government not to harass its elected public representatives.
“The BJP government is directly insulting public mandate by preventing elected representatives of Congress to use their given rights. This is a vindictive act as the ruling party could not efface its defeat in civic bodies’ polls in which the Congress won Raipur, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon and Bhilai municipal corporations along with several municipal councils and nagar panchayats,” the Congmen said.
Targeting Urban Administration Minister Rajesh Munat, the delegation said his demeanour is biased and spiteful towards the party’s elected representatives. “He is directly interfering into development works of Congress-ruled civic bodies by convening meetings of commissioners/CEOs of the respective bodies,” the delegation said.
“The government is straightaway carrying demolition drives through officials ignoring Congress mayors, presidents and corporators. The demolition is being done without compensating the affected people,” the Congress leaders said.
They alleged that the government was adopting partiality in allocating funds to Congress-governed civic bodies but also conspiring to remove party representatives undemocratically.
“Bilaspur Municipal Corporation Vani Rao has received three notices of removal from the government. The president of Dongargarh Municipal Council too has been threatened of sacking through three notices. Similarly, financial rights have been snatched from Birgaon Municipal Council president Omprakash Dewangan. The CEO of this council has not been to office for last three months and holds controversial record in career during his previous postings in Mungeli, Gobra Nayapara, Jamul and other civic bodies,” they said.
The delegation was comprised of Arvind Netam, Satyanarayan Sharma, Arun Vora, Subhash Sharma, Dr Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vidhan Mishra, Kuldeep Juneja, Ambika Markam, Dr Premsai Singh, Kiranmayi Nayak, Mahendra Chhabda, Sushil Anand Shukla, Naresh Dakalia, Rajendra Tiwari, Dhanesh Patila, etc.
