Members of YC, NSUI arrested on V-Day

Raipur, February 14, 2012

Police on Tuesday arrested about 26 members of Youth Congress (YC) and 12 of NSUI for disturbing peace under section 151 of IPC on the occasion of Valentine's Day on Wednesday. After arrest, both the YC and NSUI members have been sent to jail.
The frontal organisations of Congress – YC and NSUI had decided to celebrate V-Day uniquely and hence took rallies separately on Wednesday.
The YC members led by their Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari took a bike rally and sloganeered against those who prevent people to celebrate V-Day with their friends. The police stopped the bike rally and arrested the YC members for creating nuisance. Tiwari alleged that the government was adopting dual policy and only taking action against YC and NSUI members despite their peaceful demonstration.
The NSUI’s rally commenced at 11 am from Congress Bhawan and proceeded towards Jaistambh Chowk. Meanwhile, the NSUI members started distributing flowers and releasing balloons. The police stopped them in the midway and arrested immediately.
Condemning the police action against them, the NSUI members termed it repressive. “We simply wanted to convey message of brotherhood on the occasion of Valentine's Day but the police did not allow us to do so,” said former NSUI state president Sanjeev Shukla and NSUI’s Raipur district president Pradeep Sahu.
In YC rally, Tiwari was accompanied by Sushil Agrawal, Ashish Dubey, Sameer Chouhan, Sunny Agrawal, Khilesh Dewangan, etc.
Besides Shukla and Sahu, the NSUI members who participated in the rally Asmita Chelak, Ajay Pal, Mahesh Yadav, Aniket Kumar, Shiekh Asif, Rajesh Nishad, Himanshu Ramteke, Naushad, Shubham Soni, Nadeem Salat, Anurag Sharma, Shivam Mishra, Amitabh Ghosh, Hem Singh Sahu, Tushar, Jittu Sahu, etc.
