Cabinet reshuffle cannot change BJP’s corrupt image: Cong

Raipur, February 18, 2012

Terming Saturday’s Cabinet reshuffle a “confirmation” of Congress allegations against the ruling BJP ministers that they spurred irregularities, the PCC spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said mere face change would never help the tainted and corrupt government in rebuilding its image.
“Chief Minster Raman Singh has changed the portfolios of those ministers whom the Congress has been targeting for the past couple of years because of large-scale graft cases in their respective departments. The other ministers too are under Congress radar but CM spared them because of some compulsion,” said Shukla.
“It is surprising that the CM has snatched the portfolio of Panchayat and Rural Development Department from minister Ramvichar Netam because just recently the government had received an award from the Centre by producing fake MNREGA records of Sarguja district. But the CM was forced to take this decision because the Congress monitoring committee has unearthed huge irregularities in Central schemes including MNREGA not only in Sarguja but also in Kawardha, Rajnandgaon, Jashpur, Koria, Raigarh, Mahasamund and Dhamtari districts,” he added.
“Similarly, Water Resources Department was taken back from minister Hemchand Yadav because huge corruption took place under his nose including infamous incident of sale of Rogda dam to one industrialist as well as sale of water from irrigation anicuts to industrialists,” he said.
“The CM changed the portfolio of minister Rajesh Munat because Congress mounted pressure on it by handing over his department’s fact file to the Governor. During Munat’s three-year tenure as an Urban Administration Minister, there was undeclared prohibition of implementation of development works in Congress-ruled civic bodies and panchayats. When the helpless Congress public representatives complained about this to the party leadership, a joint protest was registered against the minister to Governor,” Shukla said.
On snatching of Revenue department from minister Amar Agrawal, Shukla said under his tenure, large tracts of forest lands of Bilaspur, Mahasamund, Raigarh and other districts changed into populated areas with buildings all around.
“Huge land scams took place under Agrawal’s tenure and hence he lost the Revenue department. However, it is surprising that the CM ignored Agrawal’s incapability to handle Health department as not only irregularities but Balod eye camp incident were glaring examples to prove him misfit for the portfolio,” Shukla said.
He also questioned CM’s reluctance in giving Energy and Mining departments to other ministers and asked him to clarify his ulterior motives in keeping such lucrative profiles with himself.
On Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar whose profile remain unchanged, Shukla said despite the minister’s failure in curbing crime and naxal violence, the CM could not changed his profile because none was interested in handling such a challenging department.
