Cong training camp held sans bigwig leaders

Raipur, February 24, 2012

The much-awaited workers’ training camp of Congress was organised at Amlipadar under Bindranawagar legislative assembly area on Friday. Surprisingly, the party’s bigwig leaders including CLP leader Ravindra Choubey and legislators were missing from camp, however, PCC president Nandkumar Patel attempted to maintain the tempo of about 350 workers by exhorting them start preparing for forthcoming polls according to party instructions. He further said that the party would announce candidates for 51 Vidhan Sabha seats (dominated by ruling BJP) some 100 days before the elections.
“The objective of the state Congress is dethrone BJP from power in next Assembly elections and help the party forming government at Centre by getting public mandate in general elections,” he said.
The workers had expected to get introduced by the entire top brass of the party as was declared, but it did not happen. Sources say that two major factors prevented senior leaders to attend the camp – first - increasing factionalism and attempt by some leaders to shift equilibrium towards their side and second - unavailability of several leaders.
The party had invited AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, AICC general secretary and incharge of state Congress BK Hariprasada and AICC secretary and state unit’s incharge secretary Bhakt Charandas, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Charandas Mahant veteran leader Vidyacharan Shukla and senior legislator Ajit Jogi but none came due to some or the other reason.
While the legislators of nearby legislative constituencies including Agni Chandrakar, Paresh Bagbahra, Devendra bahadur singh and Dr Haridas Bhardwaj were also missing from the camp.
