Govt has become tyrant, repressive: Congress

Raipur, February 04, 2012

Strongly condemning police lathicharge on partymen, who demonstrated and disrupted road traffic near Rajendra Nagar turning at Ring Road No 1 with their demand of under-bridge construction and provision of traffic signal at the spot to prevent rising mishaps, the Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla on Saturday said that the government had become tyrant and repressive.
“Does the government consider demand for public security provisions a crime? If this is so, then this government is really adopting tyrannical attitude,” said Shukla.
“The police action was horrible. The cops not only beat the Congress agitators, but even misbehaved with senior party leader Satyanarayan Sharma. The Congress strongly objects such acts but would continue raising public-related issues in future,” he added.
He said the Ring Road No 1 had become accident prone zone. “If you are driving on this road then you are risking your life. While the government is indifferent towards public problems, the construction agency hired by the NHAI too ensured to cause inconvenience to the local residents by not constructing under-bridges and providing traffic signals at turnings. This led to frequent road mishaps on Ring Road,” he said.
He said the proposed toll plaza spot near Sundar Nagar on Ring Road too was illegal. “According to norms, the toll plaza should be constructed out of municipal limits. But the government has allowed the construction agency to build it near residential areas. To recover heavy toll from the public, the agency has not made turning near residential areas. All these have happened under government’s silent nod,” he said.
