Mayor inspects Shankar Nagar cemetery

Raipur, February 10, 2012

After receiving several complaints that Shankar Nagar cemetery was in dejected condition and builders were trying to encroach it, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak conducted sudden inspection of the area on Friday noon. Admitting that the cemetery lacked basic facilities, she asked the zone commissioner to quickly engage sanitary workers and clean the cemetery campus.
She regretted that cemetery was in neglectful state despite the ward being represented by RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava. She assured the local residents that the RMC would surely take care of the cemetery and would develop it like Devendra Nagar Muktidham.
The Youth Congress (YC) leader Akash Tiwari informed the Mayor that when someone passes away, the people usually prefer completing the last rituals either at Devendra Nagar Muktidham or Marwari Shamshan due to ill-facilitated Shankar Nagar cemetery.
Notably, the residents of Shankar Nagar, Kalimata and Subhash Chandra wards led by Tiwari had gheraoed the zone commissioner recently regarding the cemetery issue. They had demanded from the zone commissioner to provide woods, electricity, watchman/security guards and other radical facilities in the cemetery.
During Mayor’s inspection, the local residents present on the occasion were - Lekhraj Bodhwani, Anil Jain, GK Agrawal, Rajesh Toshniwal, Sattu Singh, Rajkumar Pandey, Gaurav Mandhani, Chandraprakash Prajapati, Ketan Thakur, Nandni Dhage, etc.
