In the backdrop of Guru Ghasidas University (GGU) Bilaspur shutting its doors for about 40000 private students and Sarguja University’s (SU) vice chancellor refusing to give them opportunity in his varsity as private examinees, state Congress president Nandkumar Patel has written a letter to Governor Shekhar Dutt seeking his intervention into the matter.
Patel said the students opt for private exams owing to various reasons including weak financial conditions.
“After becoming Central University, the GGU Bilaspur cannot conduct private exams according to Union HRD norms. By far, about 40000 students were appearing in private exams of GGU. The students usually belong to Bilaspur, Korba, Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa districts. Now, they are in dilemma about their future studies with GGU doors shut and SU’s blunt denial to act as Saviour of their career,” Patel said.
“The SU’s VC Sunil Verma has even remarked to the extent that he would resign if the government would pressurise him to conduct exams for these 40000 students. The Higher Education Minister Hemchand Yadav is well acquainted of this matter but has not taken any step in favour of the students by far. However, he asserts that the government would conduct exams for these students. The statements of the minister and SU’s VC are contradictory and have perplexed the students,” said Patel.
He urged the Governor to instruct the government to organise exams for private students in the current academic year.
