Factions resurface in Congress

Mcleod writes letter to Sonia against PCC chief
Patel to give clarifications to Hariprasada today

Raipur, February 01, 2012

Factions in state Congress unit have resurfaced. The PCC president Nandkumar Patel, who was claiming to have succeeded in uniting the party, has himself become target of the fellow members. The party’s nominated member in Lok Sabha Ingrid Mcleod has written a letter to Congress supreme Sonia Gandhi and complained against Patel. According to information, Gandhi has forwarded the letter to state unit incharge BK Hariprasada. Patel will clarify his stand before Hariprasada on Thursday at New Delhi.
Sources informed that Mcleod is upset with Patel for not taking her inputs while restructuring the organisation. She has questioned Patel’s ability to handle the party and had pointed towards some of his statements terming them irresponsible and controversial. The letter has been leaked and has reached many hands in the party by far.
Patel’s supporters, however, feel that the allegations against him were baseless and the high command would give him clean chit. “Patel has worked hard in the past ten months to consolidate the party and the senior leadership is well acquainted with his efforts. Therefore, Hariprasada is less likely to take any action against him. Instead, he would urge the leaders to leave aside differences and join hands to strengthen the party.
Hariprasada, who was in intense tour to five poll-bound states, would reach New Delhi on Thursday. Patel left for the national capital on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Charandas Mahant, senior party leader and legislator Ajit Jogi and other party MLAs who too are likely to meet Hariprasada on Thursday.
