Cong charges of utensil scam in CSIDC

Raipur, February 23, 2012

Congress has charged of utensil scam in Chhattisgarh State Industrial Development Corporation (CSIDC). “The CSIDC has put aside all the norms and given utensil supply order worth crores without conducting quality test of the samples. The CSIDC has not even considered it important to acquire information of the manufacturer units from where the utensils would be supplied,” alleged state president of PCC’s business cell Kanhaiyya Agrawal on Thursday.
“Even when we sought detailed information regarding tendering process of utensil supply through Right to Information (RTI) Act, the CSIDC provided use the information of year 2010 instead of 2012,” Agrawal said.
Notably, the bid for utensil supply was invited recently. The CSIDC had set high norms for utensil quality. The utensils are meant for Tribal Welfare Department and Women and Child Development Department.
“Since, these two departments do not have quality test departments, the quality of the utensils is supposed to be tested by the CSIDC but it is trying to shirk this responsibility,” he said.
“The corporation also shortlists authorised suppliers whom the two departments give orders. “However, the corporation strangely relaxed the norms for some suppliers who did not submit the samples of the utensils along with the tenders,” he said.
“While finalising the tenders, the CSIDC did not even ensured whether the specific companies had their own manufacturing units or not. This is an indicative of huge scam,” he said.
“The government fund is meant to purchase quality utensils for the poor tribal children but due to nexus of suppliers with departmental minister officials, ‘supply and rate fixation’ procedures have been twisted to provide benefit to selected few,” he said.
Agrawal warned that Congress business cell would complain about the utensil supply scam to Governor and Lokayukta if the relevant tendering process would be cancelled.
