Congress on Monday demanded from the government to hand over tribal land usurpation cases to CBI for transparent inquiry. The party has alleged that the tribal land usurpation has developed into an industry under ruling BJP’s protection.
“It is surprising that the government has not taken any action against the administrative as well as land registration officials for lending permission for bulk sale of tribal lands despite of several land usurpation cases coming in light,” said Congress vice president Kawasi Lakhma, general secretaries Dr Premsai Singh, Bhupesh Baghel and chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi jointly.
They said that the tribal lands were being sold at excessively low rates for the past eight years under the asylum of Chief Minister Raman Singh and the former Revenue Minister Amar Agrawal.
They asked the government to revoke all the registrations of sold tribal lands in last eight years and also conduct inquiry into the role played by the land registration officials and BJP leaders.
“The party has received large number of complaints regarding tribal land usurpation. In this connection, PCC president Nandkumar Patel toured Jagdalpur, Dantewada, Kanker, Bijapur and Narayanpur from July 5-7, 2011 and found that the complaints regarding land usurpation were true. The party has learned that similar cases in tribal belts have emerged everywhere in the state,” the Congmen said.
“A major industrial house has done benami land purchase in village Parsada. The lands belong to poor tribals. This proves that the tribal lands are being sold under a conspiracy,” they said.
“Similarly putting aside all the rules, the forest lands near Mopka village (Bilaspur district) were registered under the influence of former Revenue Minister Amar Agrawal,” they informed.
“In Mahasamund, permission to about 150 cases of ‘tribal lands sold to non-tribals’ was granted on government’s pressure,” they charged.
The Congmen pointed that the permission lent for 82 cases in Raigarh district was found to be false and all the cases are under reconsideration. They alleged that some BJP leaders were mounting pressure on the government to prevent reconsideration of these cases.
“In yet another case of land usurpation, Korba West Power Company Limited purchased 37.426 hectare tribal land in villages Bade Bhandar, Chhote Bhandar, Sarwani and Amlimouna on the name of seven BPL cardholder MNREGA labourers from village Parsada (Abhanpur) at excessively low rates. The company did benami land purchase because it wanted to avoid legal compulsion to give jobs to the tribals on whose lands it was installing power plant,” they charged.
