YC gheraoes pvt university regulatory commission

Demands revocation of approval to Shankaracharya group to establish university

Raipur, February 02, 2012

The Youth Congress (YC) on Thursday gheraoed Chhattisgarh Private University Regulatory Commission (CPURC) and demanded to revoke the approval given to Shri Gangajali Education Society Bhilai to establish a university in the state. In this regard, the YC members submitted a memorandum to the commission chairman and informed him that the society is fake and playing with the future of the students. Notably, the society operates its academic institutions through Shri Shankaracharya Group of Institutions.
The president of YC’s Raipur Lok Sabha Vinod Tiwari alleged that the society obtained permission from the commission to establish university by hiding facts.
“This society owns about half a dozen academic institutions but never follows educational norms in any of them. It had taken affiliation of MBA course for Shankaracharya College Junwani, but is running this course in Shankaracharya College of Engineering and Technology Durg. The state government had conducted inquiry into the matter by forming a probe committee. After investigation, the committee had recommended Rajbhawan for punitive action against the society. However, this matter is pending at Rajbhawan,” said Tiwari.
“Similarly, the society’s another institute – Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Professional Management and Technology (SSIPMT) Mujgahan is overtly flouting norms and charging high fees from the students. The SSIPMT is also reluctant in returning the additional fee taken from the students in spite of commission’s instructions. In this case, the commission had conducted probe through a committee on YC’s complaint and found it correct. Even the SSIPMT administration accepted that it had taken excess fees from 1100 students,” informed Tiwari.
“The SSIPMT’s building is also illegal as the construction is done over the government canal. The society has not even obtained No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the local gram panchayat to construct college building,” Tiwari informed.
The commission chairman has assured the YC members to consider their objection and would take suitable action against the society after inquiring into the matter.
