The Stenographer Kalyan Sangh (SKS) has demanded from government to quickly fill vacant posts of stenographers in Secretariat and other departments. The SKS has also sent a letter to Chief Minister Raman Singh in this connection.
The state president of SKS Dr Jeetendra Singh Thakur informed that 15 posts of stenographers and about 100 posts of stenotypist and assistant grade-3 were vacant in Secretariat since long time. Similarly, about 2000 posts of stenographers were vacant in 46 different departments, he added.
“Since constitution of Chhattisgarh state, very few posts of stenographers have been filled. There are over 2500 candidates who have cleared stenography exam, but majority of them have exceeded maximum age limit criteria for appointment. Considering increasing number of unemployed youth, the government should rapidly fill the vacant posts of the stenographers,” Thakur said.
He informed that the setups of several departments are ready but the officials were reluctant in recruiting stenographers.
The sangh also objected over salary discrepancies of the stenographers. Thakur said while the stenographers posted in Secretariat receive pay-scale of Rs 5500-9000 (grade pay Rs 4300), those posted in other departments get pay-scale of Rs 4500-7000 (grade pay Rs 2800).
“The eligibility criteria for the posts of stenographers in Secretariat and other departments is same, however, there is difference in their pay-scale. The government should ensure uniform pay-scale for stenographers of the state,” he added.
He said the stenographers had not get benefit of the pay-scale for the past nine years. “Earlier, the pay-scale of stenographers was equivalent to draftsmen and rangers but then salary band of the latter was increased to Rs 5500-9000 (grade pay Rs 4300),” Thakur said.
Besides Thakur, the sangh members who jointly sent a letter to the CM were vice president Anita Khare, general secretary Akhilesh Barik, deputy secretary Devsingh, treasurer Ghanshyam Verma, SKS Raipur district president Lukesh Verma, Harish Kanwar, Rakesh Gajendra, Kamal Wasnik, Preetam Manikpuri, Ashima Vishwas and others.
