The Congress on Saturday burnt an effigy of PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal alleging that he had breached the promise he had done to the businessmen that shops at Santoshi Nagar would not be demolished.

“Agrawal had assured that no demolition works would be carried out in Santoshi Nagar, but he failed to keep his promise as the RMC started razing the both commercial and residential establishments on either side of the road without giving prior information to the affected people on Friday. It is really shame that Agrawal has deceived people,” Dhariwal said.
When the demolition continued on Saturday, the Congress leaders reached the spot and burnt the effigy of the minister in presence of corporators Amit Das, Samir Akhtar, Satnam Singh Panag and others.
Notably, the RMC demolition squad had razed about 200 shops and houses Santoshi Nagar on Friday in the of heavy police security.
The municipal officials on the other hand informed that according to project, the road would be widened up to hundred feet considering the traffic pressure on it and for convenience of motorists. The road widening is also necessary because a large number of educational institutes had been emerged close to the area and the school and college buses always adopt the Santoshi Nagar road, they said.
