Cong to decide candidates with consensus: Vora

For organisational and Rajya Sabha elections

Raipur, May 15, 2010

In spite of being aware that factional politics dominates the state Congress, the AICC treasure Motilal Vora claimed that the party would succeed in achieving consensus on the names of candidates for organisational and Rajya Sabha elections. However, he said, the final decision would be taken by the Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi.
Vora, who arrived here along with Rajya Sabha member Mohsina Kidwai to attend an inaugural function of a burn unit in Janjgir-Champa, was speaking to the media persons about the changing equations of organisational and Rajya Sabha polls in the state Congress at Mana airport on Saturday morning.
“The party will not impose office-bearers and we will try to take consent of all the workers on the selected names. However, we will conduct elections in places where discord would surface,” Vora said.
When asked whether the candidate for Rajya Sabha would be from Chhattisgarh or outside, Vora said the party had not discussed about it by far. “After considering all permutations and combinations, the High Command will take the final decision on the name of the candidate and it will be accepted by everyone,” he said.
Asked about aggravating naxal problem in the state, Vora said the Union government had always extended its support to all the state governments to tackle the menace by providing special packages, paramilitary forces and other resources, but the latter needed to make optimum use of such provisions.
On BJP national president Nitin Gadkari’s controversial comments on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, Vora termed it “personal matter” of the trio, but added that the leaders should use controlled and cultured language and must not cross their limit while giving statements.
