Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has warned the encroachers to remove their illegal constructions over nullahs and at public places to avoid municipal’s punitive action against them. The city’s sanitation works are being affected owing to the encroachments in the residential areas, said Nayak during her visit to Amarpuri in Pt Sundarlal Sharma ward where she got infuriated at the sight of illegal constructions done by two local residents over the nullah.
Nayak immediately directed Zone Commissioner Sanjay Sharma to serve notices to both the encroachers and to remove the illegal constructions. She learnt that the encroachers had constructed rooms and passage for staircase over the nullah.
She also visited State Bank Colony in the ward where she learnt from the residents that the development works of the garden in the locality was stopped after the recent civic body elections. Nayak instructed the officials of Public works department to quickly complete the pending works of the garden and open it for the public at the earliest.
During her visit, the local corporator Mrityunjay Dubey demanded from her to do concretisation of nullah flowing from Sundar Nagar toward Ring Road No 1. Nayak asked the officials to prepare a proposal and this regard and commence the project.

RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava inspected development works in Moreshwar Rao Gadre and Chandrashekhar Azad wards in Zone 6 on Wednesday. During his visit to Santoshi Nagar, about 200 residents demanded from Shrivastava to expedite the project of Rs 25 lakh nullah construction from Tarun vegetable market to Boriyakala road. The RMC officials informed him that the nullah would be five feet wide and 550 meter long. The construction of nullah will benefit the residents of Chhattisgarh Nagar, Dharam Nagar and Shiv Nagar who face inconvenience during rains every year as their bastis usually remain inundated in the absence of proper drainage system in the ward, informed officials. They locals also sought quick completion of the construction of culvert at Santoshi Nagar chowk at Ring Road No 1. The officials further informed that the RMC would widen Santoshi Nagar-Boriyakala road to hundred feet according to the master plan and to ensure free flow of traffic, but the project would affect about 70-80 shops located on either sides of the road. A group of shopkeepers who are likely to be affected by the road widening project demanded rehabilitation and compensation package before commencement of the work.

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak on Wednesday opened the complaint box at RMC office and found five written complaints. She directed the officials to quickly take necessary action on all the complaints. The first complaint was from the, the residents of Bajrang Nagar who had demanded quick cleaning of drains in their area on which Nayak issued instructions to Zone 7 Commissioner. The second and third complaints were from the residents of Adarsh Nagar Pahadi chowk (Gudhiyari) who had sought cleaning of drains and informed about problems related to tap connections and water on which Nayak asked Zone 1 Commissioner to solve the problem. The fourth complaint was from the residents of Veerbhadra Nagar who informed that the some people had illegally taken possession of the public taps. They also demanded regularisation of illegal tap connections. Nayak gave instructions in this regard to Executive Engineer of Water Works department. The fifth complaint was from Sundar Nagar residents who had informed about people who did not pay fine against their illegal tap connections and had raised two-storeyed houses.

Vomiting and diarrhoea cases have suddenly gripped the capital as five persons suffering from these problems were admitted in the Kalibadi hospital early Wednesday morning. When contacted, the one of the hospital staffers informed that the three patients had been discharged on Wednesday noon while the conditions of the remaining two had improved and they were likely to be discharged on Thursday. Several more cases pertaining to gastroenteritis symptoms including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and fever have been reportedly flooded in government and private hospitals.
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak on Wednesday reached to Kalibadi hospital to take stock of the situation and directed the municipal’s Health officer Dr Amrit Chopra to promptly take significant measures to check the contagious diseases.
Notably, the RMC had set up a Control Room in Kalibadi hospital that has been made treatment centre for the patients suffering from infectious diseases. Nayak has instructed the RMC Health department twice in the past fortnight to launch dense campaign in all the 70 wards to check the occurrence of communicable diseases like in summer and rainy season, but in vain.
Nayak has appealed from the people to disinfect the drinking water by adding chlorine tablet. She also urged people to boil the water before using it for drinking purpose. She further said that people should not eat stale food materials and must ensure that quality of the food stuffs being served to them in restaurants, eating joints and dhabas was maintained. She said people should observe personal, food and environmental hygiene to prevent food-borne diseases.

There is only one treatment centre for infectious diseases in the capital which is Kalibadi hospital. However, considering the rising cases of vomiting and diarrhoea, the RMC should also make a couple of more treatment centres in other parts of the city, suggested the residents of Guru Govind Singh ward where the gastroenteritis related cases are much more as compared to other wards. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak said that one part of Kalibadi hospital was in ramshackle condition and Rs 12 lakh had been approved for its repairing and renovation. “Very soon the broken tiles windows and doors will be replaced and peeling ceilings will be plastered again. We will open a new ward in this portion in coming days,” Nayak informed.
