The shopkeepers of Santoshi Nagar on Thursday kept their shops closed in protest of demolition works carried out by the RMC on either side of the area’s main road. The shopkeepers said the municipal should first rehabilitate and compensate them before removing their shops from the area for road widening process.
Notably, according to the master plan, the RMC will widen the existing road from Santoshi Nagar to Boriyakala road for which it had sent prior notices to the shopkeepers located on either sides of the road to vacate their establishments. The municipal officials had also conducted survey of the area and had informed about the project to the local shopkeepers.
The new road will be hundred feet wide. The municipal officials from Public Works department informed that about 70-80 shopkeepers were likely to be affected by the project. Considering the delayed rehabilitation of the shopkeepers of Telebandha who were displaced to widen the road under state government’s Gaurav Path scheme, the Vaypari Sangh of Santoshi Nagar decided to first demand proper compensation package from the municipal before being displaced.
The shopkeepers had also requested from the RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava to rehabilitate them elsewhere and provide proper compensation during his visit to the area on Wednesday.
The shopkeepers said they were not against the development of the area, but they would not allow demolition works unless the municipal make proper arrangements for them. “We are concerned about our subsistence. If the RMC will remove our shops from the area, it will really be difficult for us to reestablish ourselves in any other location,” they said.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) organised a training camp for the party workers on Wednesday on the occasion of 125th anniversary of Congress in the capital. During the camp, the PCC was supposed to release a book called –‘Ateet ki neev par bhavishya ka nirman’, and to distribute the copies of it to the party workers. But before releasing the book, the president of Training Camp Committee and Kasdol legislator Rajkamal Singhania learnt that it contained several errors and its distribution would create controversy. Singhania discussed about the book with the party’s senior leaders and decided not to release the book. “After finding several mistakes in the book, we decided to cancel the book release and distribution programme,” Singhania said. He further informed that the PCC asked the relevant publishing house to correct the errors and to publish new copies of the book. “We hope the corrected copies of the books would be available before our forthcoming training camp during which we will distribute them to the party workers,” he said.
