Cong demands CM to step down on moral grounds
For Dantewada carnage
Says it will also appeal from Centre to dissolve state govt
Raipur, April 09, 2010
Lashing out at Chief Minister Raman Singh-led BJP government in the state for framing flawed strategy against naxals that resulted in killings of 76 CRPF jawans in Chintalnar (Dantewada district) on April 7, the Congress said Singh should step down taking moral responsibility of the incident. “The CM should have shown some emotions towards the martyred jawans and must have tendered his resignation immediately after the incident, but strangely, he was busy in his routine programs even after learning about Dantewada carnage which is highly deplorable,” said PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Ravindra Choubey while talking to the media persons after joint meeting of PCC, Congress legislators and the party’s district presidents at Congress Bhawan on Friday.
Meanwhile, the duo appreciated the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram for upholding the tradition of high principles by taking moral responsibility for the bloodbath in Chintalnar and offering his resignation to the Prime Minister.
“If the BJP government will not step down, the Congress will appeal to the Centre to dissolve it. We will also launch state-wide public awareness campaign pertaining to the government’s failure in tackling the naxal issue in past six years,” the duo said.
“It is shame that one of the top officials of the state like DGP Vishwaranjan says that the naxalites had waged war of ideology and forget to mention that these terrorists had disturbed the peace and tranquility of the state by killing innocent people and trying to gain power in an undemocratic manner,” Choubey said.
He said the naxals take advantage of government’s weakness because there was a lack of coordination between the CM, Home Minister and the DGP.
Earlier, the meeting was attended 16 MLAs including former Chief Minister Ajit, Dharmjeet Singh and Nand Kumar Patel along with veteran party leader Vidya Charan Shukla and other party members.

Impose sanitation fee on marriage palaces: Mayor
Raipur, April 09, 2010
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has directed the Zone Commissioners to impose sanitation fee on the marriage palaces. She has further directed them to send a proposal pertaining to rent fixation of community buildings constructed by the municipal. Nayak gave instructions to the officials while she was reviewing the development works of the Zones 6, 7 and 8 in presence of Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members, corporators and Zone Commissioners.
Nayak first inquired about the progress of the works under overall development program for which the work orders had been issued much earlier, she was amazed that none of the works had been commenced in any wards of Zones 6, 7 and 8. Irked by the attitude of the contractors, Nayak directed the Zone Commissioners to immediately serve notices to the relevant contractors.
She said the corporators could send proposals to the Zone Commissioners regarding development works in their respective areas up to Rs five lakh.
To improve the conditions of the municipal schools, she directed the officials to prepare a proposal pertaining to permission fee so that private coaching classes could be given space on rent in such school buildings during evening hours. The fee collected through these modes would be deposited in the municipal school’s fund which would later be utilised in betterment of the school.
Considering the public inconvenience at Ring Road No 1 owing to under-construction four lane road and construction materials scattered by the implementing agency contracted by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Nayak asked the officials to recover road obstruction fee from the particular agency by sending it a notice.
She said the Zone Commissioners should engage special sanitation gangs to clean up the nullahs and drains of their respective areas in the summer.
When corporators pointed out that several areas had become accident prone owing to fused street lights, Nayak directed the municipal’s Electricity department to promptly replace the fused street lights and to regularly monitor during that no roads should remain in dark due to malfunctioning lights during night hours.
