World Bank team meets RMC Speaker, MiC members



Talks on effective implementation of urban services

The World Bank’s Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) team on Wednesday met RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava and Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members and discussed on various issues pertaining to sanitation including effective implementation of urban services in the capital. The WSP team assured the RMC administration to provide its technical support to improve the sanitary arrangements of the city.
The WSP team first met municipal officials including RMC Deputy Commissioner (Planning) Alok Chandravanshi, Health Officer Dr Amrit Chopra, Executive Engineer (Water works) KK Singh and Executive Engineer (Planning) NS Rathore and took brief information about water supply, sanitation and drainage arrangements in the city.
When the team met RMC Speaker, the latter emphasised on implementation of door-to-door garbage collection process in the city. For this, the Speaker said that the garbage collection vehicles should be used properly and people should be urged to avoid throwing litter in drains by creating awareness camps.
The Speaker said if an administrative and technical proposal regarding permanent solution of drainage problems would be prepared, he would certainly take initiative in requesting the state government to provide fund for implementation of the proposal. In this regard, the Speaker would soon conduct spot inspection along with MiC members and corporators of respective wards.
Public works department president Lakhwant Singh Gill suggested to the WSP team that the RMC’s workshop should have all basic facilities for better maintenance and operation of municipal’s vehicles. He also felt that the water supply system should be decentralised for better management. On sanitation, he said instead of using auto trolleys to collect garbage from the houses located in the narrow streets, the RMC could use handcarts.
The WSP team was comprised of communication manager Vandana Mehra, communication consultant Sanjay Gupta and communication consultants BKD Raja and Soumitra Tiwari ((from social development unit).


Seminar on NREGS at RSU tomorrow

A seminar on subject – ‘The implementation, challenges and prospects of Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS)’ would be organised at Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) on March 5. The seminar would be organised by the Indian Public Administration Association’s (IPAA) Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh branches. The seminar will commence at 3 pm in the meeting hall of varsity’s Science Block. The programme would be attended by IPAA’s regional president KK Sethi (retired IAS officer), state’s former Chief Secretary AK Vijayvargiya, Dr Indira Mishra, varsity’s Vice Chancellor Prof SK Pandey and economist Prof Hanumant Yadav.


Govt allots 216 MT rice for Annapurna Dal Bhat centres

The government has allotted 216 MT rice for its 152 Annapurna Dal Bhat centres across the state. The allotment has been done by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Directorate. The officials informed that 65 MT rice had been allotted to Raipur district’s 24 Dal Bhat centres. All the 152 Dal Bhat centres are being operated by social organisations, village panchayats, private parties and individuals, informed officials.


Govt schemes benefit 12,414 disabled

With an aim to provide social security to the disabled people, the state government’s Social Welfare department has launched several schemes. To implement these schemes, the government has established 26 organisations under Disability Act 1955. Besides, the government is also providing financial aid to 36 voluntary organisations which are engaged in the service of the disabled ones. The officials of Social Welfare department informed that 12,414 disabled had been benefited through these organisations in the current fiscal. The officials informed that about 526 disabled children are being taught in the deaf and blind schools being operated by the government organisations in Raipur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Dhamtari and Kabeerdham. Similarly, various other types of facilities are being provided by the government in other parts of the state like Sarguja, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Rajnandgaon, Koria, Dantewada, Kanker, Mahasamund, Korba and Janjgir-Champa.


Shikshakarmis should be appointed by May end: Brijmohan

School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal has directed the officials to quickly issue appointment letters to the selected candidates in recently held shikshakarmis examinations. He said all the appointments should be done by the end of May 2010. Agrawal called upon a meeting of senior officials in this regard here at his office at Mantralaya on Wednesday and asked them to expedite the process of appointment of shikshakarmis.
Agrawal said the delay in the appointment of shikshakarmis would affect studies in many schools in the fresh academic session that would commence from July 2010.
“If the shikshakarmis would be inducted into the system by May end, it would be easy for the education department to impart basic training to them in June,” he said.
“The Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) has already announced the merit list of the shikshakarmis exams and now it is the responsibility of the relevant officials to complete the formalities of issuing appointment orders on the basis of the list in one go,” he added.
In the meeting, Agrawal also discussed about various issues related to shikshakarmis including simplification of their appointment process, to change the names of their posts, regular salary disbursal arrangements, etc.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development department Serjius Minj, Secretary urban Administration Jawahar Shrivastava, Secretary School Education Nand Kumar, Secretary Tribal Development department BS Anath, Director Panchayat and Social Welfare GS Dhananjay, Director Public Education KR Pisda, Special Secretary Devashish Das and senior officials of Revenue department.


Brijmohan reviews arrangements made for Board exams

School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal reviewed the arrangements of Class Xth and XIIth Board examinations organised Chhattisgarh Board of Education (CGBSE) during a meeting of relevant officials called upon by him at his residence on Wednesday. He also discussed about various schemes to be launched in the next academic session for the benefit of school students. The meeting was attended by Secretary School Education Nand Kumar, Director Public Education KR Pisda, Chhattisgarh Text Book Corporation GM Subhash Mishra along with senior officials of State Literacy Mission Authority, State Council of Education, Research and Training, Chhattisgarh Sanskrit Vidya Mandalam, Madarsa Board, NCC and Scouts & Guides.
