BALCO case: Cong asks CM to step down

Raipur, July 24, 2012

PCC president Nandkumar Patel on Tuesday said that after Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar confirmed that BALCO acquired government lands illegally, the Chief Minister Raman Singh should step down on moral ground.
“The HM’s remark is more significant because Korba is his home district. The HM’s statement on BALCO case proves that the allegations levelled against the CM by Congress were true,” said Patel.
He further said that the BJPians should stop giving statements against Congress on BALCO case and must rather clarify their stance after HM’s remark.
The Congress lodged complaint at court against CM, former Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen and BALCO chief executive officer (CEO) on July 20 alleging that the company acquired about 2780 acre land illegally and consequently the government incurred revenue loss of Rs 140 crore. The party charged that the CM and CS played pivotal role into the matter by ordering for the regularisation of the acquired lands.
