Expressing its concern over reducing jungle and rise in illegal tree felling Congress has demanded stern action against guilty people from Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF). In this connection, a delegation of Congress members led by DCC Raipur Urban spokesperson Sheikh Shakeel handed over a memorandum to PCCF on Saturday.
The delegation informed that trees at Raipur, Rajim, Abhanpur, Arang, Simga, Durg, Bemetara, Patan and Berla were being chopped at large-scale under the nose of the Forest department but no action was being taken against the active racket behind such a grave crime.
The Congmen expressed their surprise that the Forest department’s crime squad too had not come in action after the reports of illegal cutting of trees became rife.
“The tree felling continued unabated for the past six month. Middlemen and touts are active and arrange transportation of illegally chopped tress to Raipur and Bhilai markets. The environment of the state will disturb if tree felling would not be stopped,” the delegation said.
The Congmen alleged that the tree felling racket was being protected by the Forest officials. “If department will not take action against the racket then we will gherao the Forest Minister Vikram Usendi,” they warned.
They ridiculed the government for launching fresh plantation campaign in the backdrop of illegal cutting of trees. “There is no use creating awareness about such drive and spending huge fund in it if the existing trees cannot be protected,” they said.
The delegation was comprised of Youth Congress Raipur West Vidhan Sabha representative Rameshchandra Kumar, Sunil Bazari, Ranjeet Bindra, Vimal Christian, K Rajesh Kumar, Vikas Jain, Kishan Bazari, Mahavir Dewangan, Chitranga Sahu, Sewak Mahanand, Rakesh Andrew, Tasu Sehgal, Rajkumar Sona, Kundan Sahu, etc.
