Congress on Monday launched public awareness drive against toll plaza which is being constructed in the vicinity of Sundar Nagar at Ring Road No 1.
“The toll plaza construction continues despite clear directives by Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar to the officials of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and PWD to stop the works and shift the proposed site out of city,” said state president of Congress business cell Kanhaiyya Agrawal.
“Hence, we have started our awareness drive against toll plaza from Lakhe Nagar, Ashwini Nagar, Sundar Nagar, Maitri Nagar and Raipura Chowk,” he said.
Agrawal claimed that the local residents and businessmen responded the Congress drive positively and assured to support the party’s Raipur bandh call in protest against toll plaza construction near Sundar Nagar.
“We also distributed a policy-based letter written by former Housing and Environment Minister Rajesh Munat to Principal Secretary PWD on May 23, 2011. In the letter, Munat wrote that it was evidently decided during his tenure as PWD Minister in the past that the toll plaza will not be constructed within Raipur Municipal Corporation limits,” Agrawal said.
He informed that the party would continue the awareness drive in wards around the proposed toll plaza site as well as in the main markets of the city.
The drive was led by DCC Raipur Urban President Inderchand Dhariwal and was participated by Atul Raghuvanshi, Ashwini Sharma, Deepak Kriplani, Amar Gidwani, Sushil Sachdev, Sheikh Shakeel, Sachin Golechha, Sunita Sharma, Vikrant Shirke, Akash Kashyap, Abhishek Mishra, Suresh Agrawal, etc.
