Veteran Congress leader Vidyacharan
Shukla met UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee at the latter’s New
Delhi residence on July 5 night. The duo discussed over the presidential polls
slated to be held on July 19.
According to information, Shukla assured Mukherjee
that state’s tribal Congress legislators would not do cross voting during
presidential polls as was apprehended by the party’s national leadership in
wake of Arvind Netam’s suspension. Notably, Netam rebelled and supported PA
Sangma as tribal candidate for presidential post, but the party termed it as indiscipline
and suspended him.
Mukherjee, who is touring different states to woo allied
parties of Congress as well as to interact with the party MLAs, is set to reach
Raipur on July
11.
The state Congress unit has already received
Mukherjee’s minute-to-minute programme. During his brief Raipur visit Mukherjee will held talks with
Congress and BSP MLAs separately at a VIP road-based hotel. From Raipur , he will proceed
to Orissa.
The prominent party leaders who will present during
Mukherjee’s arrival are AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, Rajya Sabha member Mohsina
Kidwai, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industry
Charandas Mahant, AICC general secretary and state unit incharge BK
Hariprasada, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, Vidyacharan Shukla and Ajit Jogi.
