Finally, going against party lines and supporting PA Sangma for presidential polls as tribal candidate cost dear to senior Congress leader Arvind Netam who was suspended by AICC general secretary and state Congress incharge BK Hariprasada on Thursday.
Hariprasada, who reached Raipur on Thursday evening to participate the party’s workers’ training camp at Jagdalpur on Friday, reportedly held talks with PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey before formally announcing Netam’s suspension.
Netam, who chairs party’s monitoring committee, had been alienated by the senior leaders when he overtly extended his support for Sangma.
While Choubey and other party leaders went on to say that Netam should rather join BJP if he could not follow high command’s instructions, the seasoned leader in turn had flayed his party for snubbing tribal candidature for presidential polls.
Netam also refrained from attending monitoring committee meeting at Durg district on Thursday and rather opted to hold a joint press conference with Sangma at New Delhi to appeal MPs and MLAs to cast their vote to the latter.
