Congress has demanded FIR against high fee charging private schools. In this connection, a delegation of Congress leaders submitted memorandum to Collector Dr Rohit Yadav at Collectorate on Thursday.
The delegation also demanded imposition of ten times fine on the private schools for not complying with the prescribed norms and stipulating inordinate fees from students.
The delegation gave 10-day ultimatum to the Collector to take action against the private schools and cautioned of launching aggressive agitation after July 22 if its demands would not be fulfilled.
‘The Collector assured us of taking action against the schools. He informed that the report of 14 schools submitted by the DEO has some loopholes and the specific institutions can take advantage by taking up the issue to court. Hence, he has directed the DEO to prepare the report again in seven days, i.e. till July 17,” informed DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal.
Three days after receiving the fresh report, the Collector told the delegation that he would take three types of action against the private schools. First, the schools which have taken fees against norms would have to return the amount to the students through cheque mode in three days.
Second, the district administration would impose ten times fine under section 13(2) of Right to Education (RTE) on the schools which would not return the excess fee in the given time period.
Third, the district administration will write a letter to respective boards with which the particular schools are affiliated to derecognise them for charging inordinate fess from the students.
The delegation was comprised of Dr Niranjan Haritwal, Madan Lal Taleda, Sheikh Shakeel, Santosh Tiwari, Mamta Rai, Ramesh Kumar, Sunil Bazari, Yogesh Tiwari, Prakash Ramteke, Nivedita Chaterjee, Madhu Bhosle, Mahavir Dewangan, Sewak Mahanand, etc.
