Congress legislator Ajit Jogi on Tuesday alleged that the government continued to benefit middlemen and businessmen by selling them paddy stocked in procurement centres at throwaway prices.
He said that the paddy stock worth Rs two crore had been sold in similar fashion from 12 cooperative societies of Bilaspur district recently.
“Still paddy amounting Rs 1000 crore has been stocked in open in the cooperative societies and the government has not taken any measure to protect it from rains,” he said.
Jogi doubted that the government might sell the huge stock to the middlemen and businessmen on pretext of moistened paddy.
“This has happened last year when one Kolkata-based company had purchased paddy from Markfed at extremely low rate. It seems the government simply aims to dent exchequer,” he said.
He further alleged that the government had nexus with Maoists. “While the CRPF and police personnel are being killed continuously due to weak intelligence, it is more frustrating to learn that the weapons seized from the naxals belong to government. Now, this is only possible when the government representatives will have links with the extremists,” he said.
