Govt fails to give better health facilities: Cong

Raipur, July 09, 2012

Congress has alleged that BJP government had completely failed to give better health facilities to the people of the state despite receiving ample funds from the Centre every year.
“The corruption prevailed in Centrally-sponsored schemes like National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Janani Suraksha Yojna, etc proves has exposed the government,” said Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
“The worst affected people are tribals who do not even get basic medical facility in their areas due to government’s negligent attitude towards enhancement of health infrastructure in remote places. While the Central health projects remain on paper instead of reaching to the end beneficiary in the tribal belts,” they said.
“The eye camp incident in Balod, recklessness of a government doctor in dealing a caesarean case which eventually resulted in death of a woman immediately after delivery in Bagicha and the deception case in Patthalgaon where the government hospital illegally withdrew fee from a pregnant woman’s smart card by showing her fake delivery in papers are some of the glaring examples that confirm the pathetic condition of health sector in the state,” they said.
“To make fast buck, some doctors removed uterus of their female patients in Raipur. Similarly, in Magarlod, more than a dozen tribal women are compelled to lead painful life after undergoing operation under government’s family planning programme,” they added.
“While keeping the people deprived of at par health facilities, Chief Minister Raman Singh goes on to boast publicly before Bollywood star Amir Khan that he is planning to implement concept of free distribution of generic drugs in Chhattisgarh. It is the CM’s yet another audacious attempt to hijack Centre’s project as the latter has already announced about free distribution of generic drugs,” they said.
“The CM should rather have admitted about the aggrieved condition of health sector while talking to Amir. He should also have informed about the corruption dominating the Centrally-sponsored health schemes and the unethical doctors who are staking lives of their patients just to make some money,” they said.
The duo advised the CM to keep an eye on Health department if the government would make provision of Rs 60 crore in its annual budget for free distribution of generic drugs. “The Health department is already in controversy over several scams pertaining to purchase of medical equipment, etc. We apprehend that fresh case of graft would surface if the department would be asked the buy generic drugs,” they said.
