Media boycotts Pranab prog after Cong snub

Raipur, July 11, 2012

The Wednesday arrival of Congress presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee proved to be distasteful for media which was initially snubbed by the party’s state unit and denied permission to interact with him. However, when the senior leaders realised that distancing off media would entail no coverage of Mukherjee’s programme, they hastily invited scribes in the last minute to talk to Mukherjee at a VIP road-based hotel, only to get insulted at the hands of hotel staff. The infuriated media persons decided to boycott Mukherjee’s programme and left the venue.
This was second consecutive time in last few months when the Congress tried to put virtual fence between its bigwig leader (Mukherjee being ex-congressman and party-led UPA candidate presidential polls) and the media. Earlier, it was during party’s national general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s programme when Congress had snubbed media.
