Congress on Saturday alleged that the government was playing with the life of poor by not addressing their problems which usually aggravate during rainy season.
“The heavy rains in past 24 hours have largely affected slum-dwellers. This happens every year but the government has not taken any step to rid them permanently from this problem,” said DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal.
He indicated the Centre had give Rs 397 crore to the state government in 2005 to build 28000 pucca houses for the poor so that they could live a respectable life.
“Ironically, the government could construct only 500 pucca houses for the poor in past seven years. This proves how serious is it in providing basic facilities to the poor. Moreover, the houses built for poor are about ten kilometres away from Raipur . Since major of them work in the capital city, the government should have made frequent conveyance arrangement for them,” Dhariwal added.
He suggested that government should build pucca houses for the poor close to the capital city considering their convenience.
“If the government would continue ignoring the poor and delay in fulfilling our demands then we would be compelled to satge massive dharna programmes against it,” he warned.
