Pvt schools taking high fees: Cong gheraoes DEO

Raipur, July 06, 2012

Congress on Friday gheraoed district education officer (DEO) for not taking action against private schools which are charging inordinate fees.
“The government had issued directives on June 18, 2012 that the private schools should return additional fees taken from the students. The DEO had assured us that she would examine the audit reports of such private schools and then take action against them. But nothing happened till date,” said DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal.
“The private schools are overtly flouting section 13(2) of Right to Education (RTE) Act and imposing several additional fees on the students apart from the tuition fees. Even if the DEO, Secretary Education and Collector refrain from taking action against such institutions then we would be compelled draw conclusion that they are doing it deliberately, said Dhariwal.
“The DEO has informed that report of about 350 private schools has been prepared and she will submit it to the Collector on July 9. She said after examining the reports, the Collector will issue orders to take action against the schools,” he informed.
Earlier, the party had demanded from the DEO to derecognise the private schools that are charging excessive admission.
“The government should have tightened noose on the private schools by constituting fee regulatory commission like that had been formed for private engineering colleges, however, no step was taken,” said Dhariwal.
“We will not keep quite if the Collector will stall action against private schools. We well meet him on July 12 and mount pressure on him for quick action,” he said.
The Congmen who gheraoed DEO on Friday were Dr Niranjan Haritwal, Madan Lal Taleda, Sachin Golechha, Ramesh Kumar, Dhansai Sahu, Sheikh Shakeel, Santosh Tiwari, Mamta Rai, Ranjeet Bindra, Sunil Bazari, Yogesh Tiwari, Mahavir Dewangan, Vimal Christian, etc.
