Expressing its concern over uterus removal cases in state, Pradesh Mahila Congress (PMC) has demanded CBI inquiry into the matter. In this connection, a delegation of PMC members handed over a memorandum to Governor Shekhar Dutt at Rajbhawan on Wednesday.
The delegation said that uterus of female patients had been removed in different nursing homes of the state by infusing fear of cancer in their minds while they actually had common infection. A big racket is active behind uterus removal cases due to indifference and protection of Health department, alleged the PMC members.
They informed that over 7500 operations had been done in different nursing homes in past two and a half years under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY). The insurance company has paid about Rs 20 crore for these operations under smart card scheme and 70 percent of the total payment was done for uterus surgeries, they said.
They informed that uterus of less than 30-year-old female patients too had been removed to earn Rs 20000-25000.
They said majority of the uterus removals cases had been surfaced in Raipur , Abhanpur and Rajim. The victims of uterus removing racking are from Dongitarai – 120, 90 gram panchayats of Rajim and Tilda blocks – over 4000, Dhamtari – 600, Anjora – 50 and Mungeli & Lormi – 255.
There is one such incident in Patan (Durg) where uterus of a minor (13) was removed, they informed. About 2919 females from BPL families in Raipur district became victim of this racket, they added.
They said the government had neither announced compensation for the victims nor had taken action against guilty doctors. They urged the Governor to intervene and direct the state government to conduct CBI probe into the matter.
The delegation which met Governor was comprised of PMC president Ambika Markam, MLAs –Dr Renu Jogi, Pratima Chandrakar, Saroja Manharan Rathore, Padma Ghanshyam Manhar, RMC mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Bilaspur Municipal Corporation mayor Vani Rao, Bhilai Municipal Corporation mayor Nirmala Yadav, Suman Pathak, Premlata Bhoi, Parvati Shau, Chhaya Verma, Chandrawati Sahu, Usha Shrivastava, Ayesha Siddiqui, etc.
