BJP anti-tribal: Cong

Raipur, June 29, 2012

Congress has said that the BJP’s support to tribal candidate for presidential post was mere pretence as the saffron party had always been anti-tribal.
“The BJP’s anti-tribal activities could easily be seen in Chhattisgarh where the government take repressive action against peacefully agitating innocent tribals. It is the Raman Singh government under which the tribals are unsafe and are compelled to migrate to other states in search of employment and peace due to rising naxal violence,” said senior tribal Congress leaders including deputy CLP leader Rampukar Singh, MLAs Bodhram Kanwar, Premsai Singh Tekam, Kawasi Lakhma, Amarjeet Bhagat, Ambika Markam, former leader of the opposition in state Assembly Mahendra Karma and others in a joint statement on Friday.
They said that the BJP government had not given security, radical facility and respect to the tribals in the past eight years.
“Over 10000 tribal girls are missing from the state but the government has not taken any initiative to search them. The government has also snatched democratic rights of the public representatives in panchayats and civic bodies of Bastar. The government is also targeting innocent tribals on pretext of naxals,” they alleged.
