YC demands health facilities in Arang

Raipur, June 28, 2012

Youth Congress (YC) has demanded upgradation of health facilities and opening of new health centres in Arang. In this connection, a delegation of YC members led by their Arang Vidhan Sabha vice president Khileshwar Dewangan submitted a memorandum to District Medical Officer (DMO) Raipur on Thursday.
Dewangan informed that according to rules there should be at least one health centre for every 5000 population at every 5 km distance in rural areas. “The population of Arang is about 3 lakh and hence the government should open 60 health centres in the region, but there are only 41 centres,” He said.
“Earlier, we had informed about this to the Block Medical Officer (BMO) but no initiative has been taken by far,” he said.
He pointed that the demand for new health centres had been raised several times by the local villagers during gram suraj abhiyans but the government put a deaf ear towards them.
“With inadequate health centres and scarce medical staffers, Arang is devoid of basic medical facilities. The serious patients are referred to private hospitals which are about 40-50 km away from Arang. Many even die in the midway without timely treatment,” he said.
He warned the DMO of launching aggressive agitation against the government if sufficient number of health centres would not be opened in Arang.
On the occasion were present Tilak Dewangan, Khilawan Nishad, Upendra Bharti, Surendra Yadav, Nandu Sahu, Mukesh, Prakash, Gopal Patel, Likheshwar Sinha, Lokesh Yadu, Manoj, Tansingh Sen, Ravi, etc.
