Conditions of rain-hit areas better than past years: Mayor

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has claimed that the conditions of rain-hit areas of the capital were better than previous years. “Earlier the low-lying areas would remain submerged after heavy and incessant rains, but the scenario has completely changed this year and water smoothly drains out from these places because of the municipal’s intense sanitation drive before monsoon,” Nayak said while she was reviewing the arrangements made by the civic administration during rainy season like proper drainage in the city besides the role played by disaster management cell in the aftermath of heavy showers.
Nayak said although the sanitation drive prior to rains brought anticipated result in the low-lying areas, but the problem of waterlogging in some places still loomed large because of encroachments over nullahs and drains that are hampering regular cleaning works. She asked the zone commissioners to remove all such illegal occupants from their areas launching anti-encroachment drive.
She further asked the officials to make the phone numbers of central disaster management cell as well as its zonal branches besides flood relief cell at fire station. She instructed the officials to purchase all the essential items required for rescue operations in flooded areas to avoid any panic.
She asked the officials to provide 70 sanitation workers to the disaster management cell and prepare their duty chart in three shifts during the entire rainy season.
The meeting was attended by Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members Asha Joseph, Manoj Kandoi, Lakhwant Singh Gil, Jaggu Singh Thakur, Lekhraj Sonkar, Amit Das, Govind Mishra, Anwar Hussein, Deenbandhu Singh Thakur, Prem Birnani, Rakesh Dhotre, Superintendent Engineer SK Tiwari, all the zone commissioner, zone health officers, and sub-engineers of different departments.


MiC meeting today

Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has called upon Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting on Tuesday. The municipal secretary GS Kshatriya informed that the meeting would commence in the conference hall of Filter Plant at 11.30 am. Information in this regard has been sent to all the MiC members. According to information, more than 200 agendas would be discussed in the meeting.


RMC removes 12 encroachments in Katora Talab

Continuing its anti-encroachment drive, the RMC on Monday removed about 12 encroachments from Katora Talab-based Netaji Hotel to MLA Rest House near Ring Road No 1. Some of the encroachers including the owner of Netaji Hotel initially resisted the municipal action, but later buckled down when the officials warned them that they would also have to pay heavy fine in future besides vacating the encroached space. The officials also gave 24-hours ultimatum to 30 other illegal occupants to vacate the encroached public places to avoid any stern action against them. The action was jointly taken by the municipal’s Town Planning and Building Permission Department and traffic police. The officials informed that the encroachments in Katora Talab were causing frequent traffic bottlenecks. The RMC has cautioned the local shopkeepers to avoid occupying the space in front of their shops illegally and help it in making the city encroachment-free.

182 posts vacant in five govt agriculture colleges: Sahu

Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu has informed that about 182 posts including teaching and non-teaching staff are vacant in state’s five government agriculture colleges. Sahu’s information came in the form of written answer to a question of Congress MLA Dr Premsai Singh Tekam during the state Assembly’s monsoon session on Monday.
Tekam has asked from the minister to provide detailed information about the total number of government agriculture colleges being operated in the state, the dates of their establishment and the number of students in each institution. Tekam also inquired from the minister about the total number of posts approved for each college besides the status of vacancies and the time period the government would take in filling all the vacant posts.
Sahu informed the House that the government had opened five agriculture colleges in the state at Raipur, Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Kawardha.
The first government agriculture college was opened in Raipur in 1961 and about 576 students have been enrolled in it. In 2001, three more colleges were opened in Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and the strength of students in each college is 196, 220 and 212 respectively. In 2007, the government established an agriculture college in Kawardha where 159 students are studying.
Sahu informed that 60 teaching staff and 122 non-teachings staff were vacant in the five colleges. In Raipur, 90 teaching posts have been approved of which 22 are vacant while among 94 non-teaching approved posts, 15 have still not been filled.
In Ambikapur, there are 16 posts for teaching staff, but only six have been filled while ten still are vacant. Similarly, there are 57 non-teaching posts, but more than half, i.e. 31 posts are vacant.
Among 16 approved teaching posts in Bilaspur, only half have been filled while 25 posts are still vacant out of 57 non-teaching posts. In Jagdalpur, only one quarter of the total 16 approved teaching posts have been filled while 12 are still vacant. Similarly, out of 57 non-teaching posts, 27 are still vacant.
In Kawardha, fifty percent of the 16 approved teaching posts have been filled while 24 out of 56 non-teaching posts are vacant.
