Wants fire fighting, rainwater harvesting systems in new buildings
Raipur, January 19, 2010
Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak has asked the RMC officials to pose seriousness in solving the drinking water problems before summer. Her instructions came while she was reviewing the RMC works including the possible crisis of drinking water in the coming months during a meeting of municipal officials, Zone Commissioners and fourteen Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members.
Knowing that the capital always face severe drinking water crisis during every summer, Nayak directed the officials to first list out areas which the problem becomes worst. She said pipelines should be laid in the water scarce areas to minimise the ferries of tankers. She further said a meeting of PHE officials should be called to discuss on specific subjects like regular cleaning of water tanks.
She said the newly constructed buildings within RMC limits should mandatorily have fire fighting and rainwater harvesting systems. She directed the officials to take stern action against those builders who would violate RMC norms in their projects. She said all the commercial complexes should provide basement parking or else action would be taken against the relevant builders.
To ensure smooth traffic in the city, especially on six main roads, she said fine should be imposed on those who would obstruct roads by scattering building materials after January 26.
