Government to check misuse of domestic gas cylinders

Raipur, Febuary 09, 2010

To prevent misuse of domestic gas cylinders, especially in commercial establishments and vehicles, the state government has decided to constitute joint inspection teams of several departments including Food and Civil Supplies, Revenue, Police and Transport.
Considering the increasing gap between demand and supply of domestic gas cylinders, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection department’s Principal Secretary Vivek Dhand has asked all the Collectors to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders in their districts and to take stringent action against those using domestic gas for commercial purpose illegally. Dhand has issued a directive in this regard to all the Collectors. Dhand has categorically asked the Collectors cancel the gas connections of those people who would be found guilty of misusing domestic gas.
Dhand further directed the Collectors to hold talks with the district heads of the oil companies to ascertain that the supply of cylinders should be in proportion with the number of consumers in the region. For this, he said Collectors must do monthly review along with officials of oil companies on supply and demand of gas cylinders.
He instructed Collectors to frame joint inspection teams at district levels comprising representatives of different departments which would prevent misuse of domestic gas in hotels, dhabas, industries, vehicles, etc.
He also pointed out that many gas agencies are not providing home delivery service of the cylinders to their consumers as a consequence of which long queues in front of agencies have order of the day. He asked Collectors to ensure that the gas agencies should mandatorily provide home delivery facility to the interested consumers and must supply cylinders at the rate fixed by the oil companies.
