To check entry tax evasion
Raipur, January 18, 2010
With an aim to check entry tax evasion in the state, the government has decided to conduct mobile inspection of goods vehicles at commercial tax barriers. A directive in this regard was issued by Commercial tax Minister Amar Agrawal while he was taking review meeting of the tax recovery status of the department here on Monday. He directed officials to issue notification with an immediate affect regarding waiver of entry tax of sugar as the announcement had already been done by the Chief Minister Raman Singh on January 15 during Vidhan Sabha session.
In the meeting, the officials informed that the department collected a revenue of Rs 273.15 crore by December 31, 2009 through various taxes including state, Central and entry tax. This collection is 2.94 percent more than previous year’s collection in the same period. The department had also launched a special recovery drive till the end of December 31, 2009 and recovered Rs 19.51 crore from several tax evaders.
Agrawal directed the officials to increase the department’s revenue before the end of this fiscal. Learning that revenue collection through taxes on diesel, electrical items and other commodities had fallen in the recent past, Agrawal instructed the officials to figure out the reasons for deceleration in the graph. He said in case of raids, the officials should promptly calculate tax and recover the amount immediately.
Agrawal categorically asked the officials to sternly follow his instructions and to produce compliance report of his directives that were given in the previous meeting. The Minister also discussed about seizure of properties of tax evaders.
