Govt failed to root out corruption: Nirankari

Raipur, January 14, 2010

Congress MLA from Vaishalinagar Bhajan Singh Nirankari on Thursday held the government responsible for ramification of corruption in the state. He said the claims of the BJP government that it had always heeded the voice of the common people had been exposed as the basic requirements of the poor like road, water and electricity remained unfulfilled. Nirankari trained his guns towards the government during the fourth day of the Vidhan Sabha session on Thursday when he got an opportunity for the first time to speak in the House after being elected as a legislator.
Nirankari began his speech criticising the arrangements of meals and snacks at Vidhan Sabha canteen. “When the government has failed to maintain the quality of meals in the Vidhan Sabha canteen then how can it provide the basic facilities to the people of Chhattisgarh?” he questioned.
He said the entire system was full of corruption and the government had never posed seriousness in solving the problems of the poor. “It is an irony that the rice meant to distribute the people living below poverty line is being consumed by the rich class under the nose of the government,” Nirankari said.
Pointing out towards the problems of his constituency Vaishalinagar, Nirankari said the area lacked basic road infrastructure. “I am surprised that the government is spending hefty amount in developing Gaurav Path, but do not want to construct roads in Vaishalinagar where the conditions of the roads are pathetic,” he said. “All the development works in Vaishalinagar were done 20 years back when I was the Chairman of SADA (Special Area Development Authority),” he added.
Nirankari was surprised how the Chief Minister Raman Singh and his cabinet ministers could not see the poor road infrastructure of Vaishalinagar during their frequent visits in the area at the time of recently held bypolls in which he got people’s mandate. He also demanded from the government to quickly solve the drinking water problem of his constituency.
During Nirankari s speech, Urban Administration Minister Rajesh Munat interrupted on which the Congress MLA Dharmjeet Singh requested the Speaker to ask the ruling party legislators not to interrupt Nirankari’s speech as he was speaking for the first time. “It has been the tradition of Vidhan Sabha that no one will interrupt the new legislator’s first speech. Congress has always followed this trend and we expect similar gesture from ruling party,” said Singh. On this, the Speaker asked Nirankari to adhere to parliamentary language.
Nirankari also demanded from the government to organise 37th National Games in Bhilai considering its renowned past in the sports and available infrastructure for conducting such a prestigious event.
