It was a learning experience at Municipalika 2010: Mayor

To develop Raipur city in an organised capital, we would have to frame effective action plan. During my recent Ahmedabad and Ghaziabad visits, I came across a host of high-tech methodologies that make a huge difference between living conditions of two cities. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak expressed these views while talking to the media persons after attending Municipalika 2010 - the 8th international exhibition and conference on municipal services, urban development & public works at Ahmedabad and national executive meeting of All India Council of Mayors (AICM) at Ghaziabad.

Nayak was also impressed by the Municipalika 2010 exhibition that had stalls of several renowned companies who have expertise in municipal solutions. “I have invited one such company – Genesis (a software company) that takes out 360 degree photographs of all the areas with minute details. These photographs help municipal bodies to locate encroachments, in revenue collection and hawker management. If we will have this service, then we will not have to conduct spot surveys wasting time, money and manpower,” she said.

The vehicle used by Genesis for photography travels 35 kilometers a day and the company is ready to give free demo to RMC for which it will take a fortnight’s time, she added. “If we will decide to hire this company then we would have to pay it Rs 8000 per kilometer,” she said.  

The Ahmedabad conference was attended by seven mayors from Raipur, Jaipur, Bhavnagar, Kota, Gorakhpur, Kupwada and Jhansi, she said. “To discuss on subject – Good cities, an open house debate was organised in which each mayor got ten minutes of time to inform about his or her achievements after assuming the office. I shed light on my 26-day works which and got 100 percent appreciation,” she added.
