Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and businessmen from Chamber of Commerce on Friday conducted survey of Malviya Road, Banjari Road and Gol Bazar to see the traffic movement and to ensure whether the implementation of new traffic rules like making some of the busy roads one-way would be feasible or not.
During the survey, the Mayor was surprised by the encroachments done by the shopkeepers like illegal construction of platforms over drains. In Gol Bazar, some of the street vendors had illegally extended their rooftops.
The Mayor appealed all the encroachers to avoid occupying public places for their business and to keep their commodities within shop’s limit. She said from Saturday onwards, the RMC would begin imposing fine on the encroachers.
In Malviya Road, when the Mayor saw water filled in basement of one commercial complex near Jawahar Bazaar, she asked the owner of the edifice to pump out water at his own cost and to use the space for parking purpose. She warned the owner that if would violate the municipal norms then his complex would be sealed and an FIR would be lodged against him.
Nayak was also upset with no parking space in another new shopping complex in Malviya Road. She asked the municipal officials to first see the map of the complex and then impose fine if the owner has not made provision of parking.
Nayak also directed officials to take stern action against the hawkers who usually take illegal possession of the narrow streets and raise their stalls to sell items related to Holi festival.
