Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak is severely upset with the progress fourlane work at Ring Road No 1. Nayak on Saturday visited Pachpedi Naka, Santoshi Nagar and Raipura areas along with Mayor-in-Council (MiC) members and municipal officials to learn about the problems of the people there but was surprised with the inconvenience people were facing in owing to the fourlane project.
With the inclusion of 26 villages within the RMC some two years back, the Ring Road No 1 has also become municipal’s part. Considering the traffic pressure from other cities as well as neighbouring states, the state government had requested from the Centre to a fourlane at Ring Road No 1. Then the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) gave contract of the fourlane project to one DS Construction Company which has failed to maintain the pace of the work.
When Nayak saw that the traffic system has completely disrupted owing to fourlane project at Ring Road No 1 and construction materials lying scattered everywhere, she got infuriated. She summoned the project’s deputy manager and inquired about the time frame for completion of the fourlane, but the latter failed to provide appropriate details. Irked by deputy manager’s ignorance, Nayak asked him to remove all the road construction materials from the road in one week or else she said the RMC would not hesitate in taking stern action against the implementation agency.
Later, the people from nearby colonies and low lying areas informed Nayak that the traffic flow becomes worse during rainy season owing to no provision of proper drainage system. They said accidents had become order of the day at Ring Road, especially during night hours.
Nayak assured the local residents that she would conduct a meeting of NHAI, PWD and municipal officials after February 8 and would discuss on the factors that could rid people from the inconveniences due to fourlane project.
