The RMC’s demolition squad on Friday removed 20 illegal kiosks from roadsides and public places at different parts of the city under its anti-encroachment drive. Besides, several small encroachments done by the street vendors and shopkeepers were also removed. The action was taken from Shankar Nagar, Telebandha, Malviya Road, Shastri Bazar and Gandhi Maidan.
The municipal Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary has clearly instructed the officials to take stern action against the illegal occupants by imposing fine and removing their encroachments.
Choudhary informed that the demolition squad removed six illegal kiosks from SRP chowk Shankar Nagar to Ashoka Tower and three more from Telebandha. Similarly, three kiosks were removed at Malviya Road and six fruit shops at Shastri Bazar. At Gandhi Maidan, the RMC took action against several vendors selling eatables and other daily use items occupying the public place illegally.

The RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary will conduct a meeting of bank managers on July 12, 2010 pertaining to the parking facility in the bank and ATM premises. The meeting will commence in Town Hall at 12 pm. In this regard, the municipal administration has asked the managers of all the nationalised and private banks functioning within the RMC periphery to attend the meeting. Notably, the haphazard parking in front of banks and ATMS is one of the major causes of traffic disruption in the busy market areas of the capital city.

Chief Minister Raman Singh will be in a day-long visit to Rajnandgaon district on Saturday where he will attend various programs. Singh will first reach Dongargarh at 11.10 am via helicopter where he will offer prayer at Ma Bamleshwari temple and thereafter attend a plantation programme at temple premises. He will reach Rajnandgaon city at 12.45 pm where he will meet with people at the municipal premises. He will return to capital at 4.05 pm.

State government has approved Rs 1.07 crore for plantation in Raipur district under Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS). The government will plant saplings of various fruits in 11 village panchayats at the cost of Rs 92.45 lakh and spend Rs 14.06 lakh to plant saplings at roadsides in two village panchayats. According to information provided by the officials of Zila Panchayat, the places selected for the plantation and the amount allocated for them are –Saragaon – Rs 2.72 lakh, Panduka – Rs 9.99 lakh (both Chhura block), Bhujgahan (Dharsiva block) – Rs 4.07 lakh, Biladi – Rs 2.72 lakh, Rs 8.15 lakh for Kota, Adsena and Bhimbhouri – Rs 3.40 lakh each (all under Tilda block), Semhartara – Rs 6.79 lakh, Teka – Rs 39.46 lakh (both Phingeshwar block) and Rs 7.03 lakh each for Paragaon Ratokat Part I & II in Arang block.

The state government will open 58 new hostels for the tribal students studying in class XI and XII. There will be 23 girls’ hostels and 35 boys’ hostels. These hostels will be opened in the current academic session 2010-11 and about 2900 students would be accommodated in them. The government has also sanctioned Rs 3.34 crore that will be disbursed as salaries to the employees appointed in these hostels.
Under the fresh appointments for the hostels, 58 posts will be created for superintendents (one for each hostel), 174 posts for other staff and 58 for sweepers.
The districts where then girls’ hostels will be opened are – Raipur – Chhura and Mainpur blocks, Jagdalpur – Farasgaon, Makdi, Bakawand, Lohandiguda, Bastanar and Darbha blocks, Dantewada – Geedam, Kuwankonda, Konta and Chindgarh blocks, Bijapur – Bhairamgarh and Usur blocks, Ambikapur – Lakhanpur, Udaipur, Shankargarh, Bhaiyyathan, Mainpat, Lundra and Rajpur blocks, Raigarh – Tamnar block and Jashpur – Farsabahar block.

To implement Unemployment Allowance 2010 scheme, the selection committee of the municipal corporation will meet at Pt Ravishankar Shukla hall in the RMC head office at 11 am on July 12, 2010. The RMC has also invited registered unemployed youths of the capital city in the meeting. The coordinator of the selection committee is mayor-in-Council (MiC) member and president of municipal’s Revenue Department Amit Das. While the members of the committee are – president of General Administration Department Anwar Hussein, president of Women and Child Development Department Anamika Sahu and president of Education Department Deenbandhu Singh Thakur. The Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) GS Kshatriya has appealed to the registered unemployed youths to attend the meeting in large number and take benefit of the scheme.
