Vidhan Sabha session Jan-March
Raipur, January 13, 2010
The third day of the Vidhan Sabha session concluded in a dramatic manner when Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik had to adjourn the House in wake of walk out staged by Congress. The Opposition was irked with the attitude of the BJP ministers who were absent from the House when the Congress legislators got an opportunity to have their say on Governor’s January 11 speech.
All the ministers from the ruling party except Women and Child Development Minister Lata Usendi were absent from the House when Congress MLA Kuldeep Juneja got the chance to speak at 5 pm. At that moment, Congress MLA Dharmjeet Singh interrupted Juneja and drew the Speaker’s attention by pointing out towards the vacant seats of senior ministers including Chief Minister Raman Singh. He said if the ruling party was not interested in listening the Opposition then why the MLA’s of his party would speak.
The Leader of the Opposition Ravindra Choubey said neither the CM, nor his ministers and the Parliamentary Secretary seemed interested in listening to the Congress MLAs and answering their questions. Indicating towards almost vacant officers’ gallery, Choubey said the officials were also following the track of ministers. Terming the government’s indifferent attitude intolerable, the Congress MLA led by Choubey walked out at about 5.12 pm.
However, Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar, PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu entered the House in next couple of minutes. The Speaker appealed from the Opposition to return to the House but in vain. The PWD Minister also made a failed attempt by requesting the Congress MLA to come back. Meanwhile, the Speaker announced the names of MLAs from Congress to continue the discussion but no one returned. Later, BSP MLA Dujram Boudh and MLAs from the ruling party got an opportunity to speak. At 5.40 pm, the Speaker adjourned the House till Thursday morning 11 am when the MLAs of Opposition did not come back.
