Planned action forced naxals to migrate: Kanwar

Raipur, March 09, 2010

The government’s planned action against naxals has forced them to migrate from their stronghold areas like Dantewada and Bijapur. The moral of jawans deployed in the naxal-infested is also high as they have been able to contain the extremists and consequently we have marked fewer casualties of our personnel in the recent past. The information was given by Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday during budgetary demands on Home, Jail and Cooperative departments.
“The efforts made by the government to contain naxalites for the past six years are finally producing anticipated result,” said Kanwar. However, he sought Opposition’s support in encouraging jawans.
“People think that naxalism is a socio-economic problem but actually it is a political problem because the extremists want to come into power using bullets. The glaring examples are dominance of Maoists in Nepal and Ramgarh (West Bengal). The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram too has finally accepted that naxalism is a political problem,” Kanwar said.
He further informed the House that the crime graph in the state had sharply declined in the recent past. To tighten noose on criminals, the Home department will open 62 new police stations and 31 chowkis, he informed.
On liquor shops that have been opened in public places, Kanwar felt that the people needed to be aware to prevent opening of such shops in residential or market places. “In my constituency, no contractor has opened liquor shop in any public place because the local residents are aware and do not allow them to do so. This type of unity and awareness is required everywhere in the state,” he said.

The new land rates after amendment will be – barren land – Rs 6 lakh per acre (earlier Rs 50,000 per acre), single crop non-irrigated land – Rs 8 lakh per acre (earlier Rs 75,000 per acre) and double crop irrigated land – Rs 10 lakh per acre (earlier Rs 1 lakh per acre).

‘Govt hiked rates to benefit industrialists’

Raipur, March 09, 2010

Leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Ravindra Choubey has alleged that the government had hiked the land rates with an aim to benefit industrialists. “The decision is an evident indicator that the government has close links with the industrialists and it wants the farmers to sell their agriculture lands,” Choubey said. He argued that the rates of the agricultural lands in the state were much more than the government’s amended rates. “The government’s decision is unjust. If it want agriculture sector to boom then why is it allowing agricultural lands to be acquired by industrialists in Janjgir-Champa?,” asked Choubey.
