Road infra, education must for development: Choubey

Raipur, March 08, 2010

The development of the state depends on road infrastructure and quality education. If our students will get proper education then they would become capable enough to make their future bright. The words were expressed by the Leader of the Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Ravindra Choubey in the House on Monday while discussing on budgetary demands for PWD, School Education, Tourism & Culture, Religion and Religious Trust departments.
Choubey said the road network in the state needed to be increased. “The government continuously increasing the PWD’s budget every year but the department has not shown progress proportionate progress. In spite of sufficient funds, a number of roads across the state are in ramshackle conditions,” he said.
Choubey further inquired about the government’s delayed projects of constructing two North-South road corridors and demanded from the PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal to complete it at the earliest. “The two road corridors will play key role the development of the state and will lead to ample investment opportunities,” he said.
Pointing towards developmental pattern in Malaysia, Choubey said, “Both Malaysia and Chhattisgarh have similar length and width but the former’s development is routed through its express highways which we lack. I hope the state government will take cue from Malaysia and construct such express highways here too.”
Pointing out towards the attitude of government officials, Choubey said, “The officials are not following protocol owing to which the MLAs of the state are feeling ignored.”
On school education, he said a number of school building were still in ramshackle conditions and lack furniture and other basic facilities. Even the shikshakarmis are not getting payments timely, he said. “Is the government lacking efficient officials to frame proper education plans? Strangely, even the Lokayukta has commented on it,” Choubey said.
“The department was supposed to open 1000 higher secondary schools across the state, but project has not yet come out of papers and consequently this is hampering literacy campaigns in rural pockets,” he added.
On tourism, Choubey indicated that the motels constructed by the department were ready but were yet to be operated. “If the department is not able to operate these motels then it should give it to the contractors. Ironically, the closed motels have become entertaining hub for those extremists against whom the government is fighting for years,” he said.

“Ironically, some of the villagers from my constituency had even asked whether Brijmohan Agrawal looks like lord Rajiv Lochan after seeing his large size photos in the advertisements of Rajim Kumbh,” Choubey said.
