The BJP has demanded from the Union government to either curb the price rise or to step down. Addressing to a massive crowd arrived to participate in the BJP’s dharna against the price rise near Sports Complex on Thursday, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj appealed to the people across the country to continue their fight against inflation and her party would raise the issue and create pressure on the Centre in the Parliament. She said the nationwide band on July 5, 2010 called upon by the BJP would be the first warning to the Centre to curb inflation.
Swaraj said the skyrocketing prices of the daily-use commodities had completely shattered the common people and they were feeling cozened by Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) whom they gave mandate for the second consecutive time at Centre. “The Congress had promised that it would curb inflation within hundred days after coming into power at Centre, but prices of the necessary items went to their all time high during the same period,” she said.
She also took a dig at Union government’s Food Security Scheme and asked how such schemes benefit poor in the backdrop of vertical price rise. She said the BJP had decided to provide food grains to the poor at economical rates in the states where it was in power by giving subsidies.
Swaraj further said that the recent fuel price hike would also dent the pockets of the common people as the prices of other items would increase proportionately.
The BJP’s state unit president Ramsewak Paikra alleged that the UPA was increasing the prices of necessary commodities every month and forcing people to lead a cursed life.

The government has also allotted Rs 5.49 crore from its Disaster Relief Fund for the nullah construction works.
The PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal informed that the residents from Santoshi Nagar chowk to Priyadarshini Nagar chowk frequently faced waterlogging problems in their respective areas due to lack of proper drainage system and owing to ongoing fourlane project on Ring Road No 1 from Tatibandh to Arang. We want army deployment in naxal belt: Sushma Swaraj
Raipur, July 02, 2010
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj has categorically said that BJP wanted army deployment in the naxal- affected areas of Chhattisgarh and other parts of the country to contain the Maoists menace. Terming naxalism as the biggest challenge to the country's internal security, Swaraj said, “We do not want any more casualties of our jawans from paramilitary forces now and it is high time that Centre should take firm decision and use army to uproot naxalites.”
Swaraj, who had arrived in the state capital to participate in the massive dharna programme of the BJP’s state unit against price rise, was speaking to the media persons at New Circuit House on Thursday.
“Unlike the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, there is no dilemma among the BJP's central leadership on use of army against naxals,” Swaraj added.
She said that the BJP favoured deployment of army and would also put pressure on the UPA government to concede with the party's demand.
Swaraj said that the central government should get out of its dilemma on the question of army deployment as the menace of naxalism needed to be addressed with all its seriousness to stop massacre of hundreds of innocent people and security personnel.
She alleged that the UPA government was totally confused over steps needed to be taken against naxalites.
On the demand for extradition of former Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) Chairman Warren Anderson in connection with the Bhopal gas tragedy case Swaraj remarked, “We will raise these issues, including that of price rise, on the opening day of the monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 26.”
The Leader of Opposition said all the floor leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would be meeting on July 4, 2010 to finalise the strategy to trap the UPA government in Parliament on three major issues - price rise, naxalism and terrorism.
Later, referring to his series of meetings with Central ministers on the naxal issue, Chief Minister Raman Singh, who was also present at the press conference, also said that the state had favoured deployment of army to combat naxalism in Chhattisgarh.
“However, it is up to the Union government to decide whether to deploy the army fully or partially after an expert committee comprising defense personnel gives its report to the government,” Singh added.
