Tribal Welfare Minister Kedar Kashyap has informed Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Kanti Lal Bhuria that the state’s tribal development works have come to a halt owing to shortage of fund that is supposed to come from Centre. Kashyap met Bhuria at New Delhi on Monday along with state’s Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Mahesh Gagda and Secretary, Tribal Development department RP Mandal.
Kashyap informed Bhuria that the Centre was supposed to provide about 449.87 crore to the state in the current financial year but by far only one third of the fund, i.e. 156.50 crore had released.
The state government had sent a proposal of Rs 225.97 crore to the Centre for 103 hostels and 95 ashram buildings in the naxal-hit areas. Kashyap informed that the Centre approved only Rs 31 crore for 20 hostels and 8 ashram buildings on January 5, 2010.
Kashyap further informed that besides scarcity of funds, there are ample tribal related demands and decisions pending with the Centre. The state government had sent a proposal to the Centre to include some castes in scheduled tribes but the matter has not yet been considered by the Union Ministry, he said. Kashyap demanded from Bhuria to take prompt action pertaining to state’s tribal issues so that more number of people from this section could take benefit of various government schemes.
