The RMC on Wednesday commenced its anti-encroachment drive in the city under which its flying squad charge fine of Rs 410,000 on 400 shopkeepers for illegally occupying the public places like footpath and road for their business. The municipal also fined those shopkeepers who were using the parking space left in the basement of their own edifices for other purposes.
Initially, some of the shopkeepers protested the municipal’s action saying that RMC should have given them prior information about it. Considering the wrath of shopkeepers, the RMC officials gave them an hour’s time to leave the encroached spaces.
The RMC action was taken against the shopkeepers of Malviya road, near Jaistambh Chowk and busiest roads near Sharda Chowk.
The municipal officials informed that the small shopkeepers were fined Rs 200-300 for encroaching public place while the penalty amount for big businessmen was Rs 2000-3000. In Malviya Road, the RMC fined Rs 5000 each to one bakery shop and two other shops for using the parking space in the basement of their shops for business purpose.
The RMC Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary informed that the municipal had given several warnings to the shopkeepers in the past to avoid using public places for their business but in vain. The said the action against illegal occupants would continue in future. The municipal will also fine the illegal kiosk owners, hawkers and various stalls which are disrupting normal traffic of the city by occupying footpath and roads, said officials.
