Retail market to remain open on Sundays

Raipur, January 20, 2010

Finally, the people who do not get time for shopping in the weekdays have a reason to smile as the retail market will remain open on Sundays from now onwards. The decision for public convenience was taken during a meeting held between RMC and Chamber of Commerce in which Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, municipal Commissioner Om Prakash Choudhary, Chamber’s president Shrichand Sundarani and its office bearers were present.
In the meeting, it was decided that the retailers would be allowed to open their shops on all the seven days of the week. On the occasion, Choudhary informed that the municipal had decided to issue shop license from its zones for convenience of shopkeepers. He also accepted the Chamber’s request to provide license fee payment facility in every zone.
During the meeting, the Mayor informed the Chamber about RMC’s plans to declare some of the busiest roads of the capital as ‘one way’ to ensure smooth flow of traffic. However, she said, the RMC would take decision in this regard only after consent of shopkeepers. For this, she assured the Chamber to include shopkeepers to conduct survey of some specific roads.
